The Melt Gala Belfast: A Night to Remember
On March 3rd, 2025, Array Collective celebrated the arrival of their Turner Prize-winning artwork, The Druthaib’s Ball, at the Ulster Museum with the unforgettable Melt Gala. The event brought together a vibrant crowd of art lovers, creatives, and activists for an evening of art, performance, and feminist celebration.
Guests embraced the theme by dressing in their most extravagant finery, inspired by the roaring 1920s flappers, Bauhaus ballets, Surrealist soirées, and feminist icons. They walked the red carpet alongside semi-mythological characters from the Array Pantheon, including the Failed Flapper, the Banshee (bones) edition, and the Centenary Rose of Travesty. Throughout the evening, attendees encountered powerful figures like the Morrigan, Mary Na Gig Shee, the Slapper, and the Happy Sad Sack, each bringing life to The Druthaib’s Ball exhibition.
The Melt Gala marked the unveiling of The Druthaib’s Ball at its new home in the Ulster Museum and celebrated the legacy of feminist movements and their influence throughout history.
The MELT Gala after-party was hosted in the glorious surrounds of the Empire Music Hall. The event featured an activist catwalk hosted by Clodagh Lavelle and Thomas Wells, where the night’s biggest "Melter," the Partition Puca, was crowned as the winner. (Could this be Sighle Bhreathnach-Cashell in costume?)
